The Brooklyn Nets are off to a rough start to open the 2025–26 campaign. Through three games, they remain winless, including an 11-point loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night. In the defeat, guard Cam Thomas served as the lone bright spot, finishing as one of only three Nets to reach double figures and the only player to score more than 16 points. Thomas did far more than that, pouring in 40 points to go along with two rebounds. He did a significant portion of his damage at the free-throw line, converting a perfect 13-for-13 at the stripe.
The scoring outburst was an encouraging sign for Nets fans after Thomas struggled in the season opener against the Charlotte Hornets, shooting 2-for-9 from the field and finishing with 15 points while dealing with heavy pressure from Collin Sexton. He bounced back on Friday with 33 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Combined with Sunday’s effort, Thomas now has 73 points over his last two games, showcasing his value as Brooklyn continues searching for offensive consistency.
Thomas’ 40-point performance also produced a notable milestone, marking the 10th such game of his career. That number ties him with Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey who also holds 10 40-point games. Both at age 24, the two are some of the league's best young scorers. That said, amongst all players 25 and younger, Anthony Edwards will be hard to dethrone, as he's racked up 20 40-point games at the same age as Thomas and Maxey.
Thomas will look to lead Brooklyn to its first win of the season in the team’s next matchup, though the challenge will be steep. The Nets travel to Houston to face the Rockets on the second night of a back-to-back, a difficult assignment for a team still searching for answers.
