A kid playing NBA 2K with Donovan Mitchell poked the Cleveland Cavaliers star, which inspired Mitchell's 46-point explosion. After a crucial win against the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday, Mitchell told reporters how a trash-talking kid indirectly made the Sixers pay for his harsh words.

Before Mitchell took court against Philadelphia, he was one of the league's top scorers, averaging 29.5 points per game and shooting over 55% from the field. However, in the postgame interview, Mitchell told reporters that the person on the other side told him that he was "washed up."

"I wouldn't put the game I had based on [anything that happened] on the court. This kid pissed me off today. I had been playing 2K for like two hours and I told him, I was like, 'Just wait.'" Mitchell said, smiling. "He just called me washed up. He called me a bunch of things."

The Cavaliers' star also gave the person a special shoutout.

"So this game was for that kid, or grown man, or whoever that was," Mitchell added. "I appreciate you. I told him I'd give him a shoutout, too. So that's what tonight was."

In the 132-121 win over the 76ers, Donovan Mitchell put on an offensive masterclass. He had 46 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists and 1 steal in just 35 minutes.

After first 40-point game, Donovan Mitchell sets a new franchise record

There is barely a franchise record in the Cleveland Cavaliers' history that LeBron James hasn't had in his name. While the greatest Cavalier is now suiting up in the LA Lakers jersey, Donovan Mitchell has been imprinting his name in the Cavs' history pages.

After his 46-point explosion, Mitchell became the first player in the Cavaliers' history to have four games with at least 35 points in the first 8 games of the season.

In the Cavs' second game of the season, Mitchell had 35 points in a win against the Brooklyn Nets. Three days later, on Oct. 27, he again recorded 35 points in a win against the Detroit Pistons. Before his 46-point game, Donovan Mitchell had erupted for 37 points in the Cavs' win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Moreover, every time Mitchell has scored 35 points or more this season, the Cavaliers have won the game. Not that Mitchell lacks motivation, but perhaps Cavs fans should trash-talk their star player before every game.
