Bills Mafia knows pain.
The Buffalo Bills have a storied history, but too much of it involves sequences that leave the Bills on the wrong side of that history. And there may be no better representation of that than the Bills' appearances in Sporting News' newly released list of the 140 Greatest Sports Moments to celebrate a publication that has existed since 1886.
The Bills appear three times in the 140 moments.
The highest-ranked, at No. 62, is the "Music City Miracle."
That, of course, is when the Titans used a cross-field lateral on a kickoff return to create an incredible touchdown and knock the Bills out of the playoffs.
"The Bills bit on (Frank) Wycheck being the returner and were displaced when he instead laterally passed the ball to wide receiver Kevin Dyson on the far left side," recalls SN's Vinnie Iyer. "Dyson darted untouched 75 yards ahead for the game-winning TD with only three seconds left."

For reference, the Music City Miracle ranks right between LeBron James' "Decision" and Simone Biles' Olympic performance in 2016.
The Bills also appear at No. 77 for the Kansas City Chiefs' legendary "13 seconds" win, when the Bills needed to hold the Chiefs back for just 13 seconds from a potential tying field goal but couldn't, then lost in overtime.
"It seemed impossible they could get into Harrison Butker’s field-goal range in two plays from their own 25," Iyer writes. "But the Bills’ defense broke down on short passes to HIll and tight end Travis Kelce, leading to 44 yards from Mahomes and setting up Butker’s game-tying 49-yarder. The overtime coin toss landed in the Chiefs’ favor and allowed them to win without Allen touching the ball."
Ouch. Pain indeed.
At least the Bills got one positive moment on the list -- No. 84, when they came back from 35-3 down to beat the Oilers in the postseason.
"The Bills remembered the inspiring halftime words of coach Marv Levy and exploded for four touchdowns in under seven minutes, with Reich hitting future Hall of Famer Andre Reed twice," Iyer writes. "They entered the fourth quarter trailing just 35-31.Reich threw his fourth touchdown of the second half to give the Bills the lead, but Houston forced overtime in the closing seconds with a field goal. The Bills’ defense, which shut down Moon in the second half, came up with an interception to set up a Steve Christie game-winning field goal in overtime."
The Bills will be hoping a higher-ranking, positive moment involving Allen and this era will be added to a future list.
For now, though, mostly recollections of pain.
