The Denver Broncos, nuch malinged for not making a move in free agency so far this offseason, have made a huge move on Tuesday. The team has agreed to a trade with the Miami Dolphins to acquire star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
This is the move Broncos Country was hoping for. It gives the team a true No. 1 wide receiver on the outside for Bo Nix to get the ball to, something the team sorely needed to make a run in its wide-open Super Bowl window. The move will allow Courtland Sutton to shift into more of a No. 2 role.
Waddle was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. That year, he set a rookie record for receptions in a season with 104. In four seasons with the Dolphins, he caught 373 passes for 5,039 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Here are the full details of the trade:
There you go. #Broncos trade with Dolphins:
Denver receives: Waddle and Dolphins’ 4th-round pick (11th in round) in this year’s draft.
Miami receives: Broncos’ 1st round pick (30th overall) along with their late 3rd and 4th round picks (30th in each round) in this year’s draft.
The Broncos were interested in acquiring Waddle ahead of last year's trade deadline, but the asking price was just deemed too high. With the Dolphins now in a full rebuild, they chose to part with him. It would have been terrific if all the Broncos had to give up was their first-round pick, and though it cost a little more, this is still a great deal for the team.
The Broncos are still the league's only team that hasn't signed an outside free agent since the signing period opened. That has led to plenty of angst within Broncos Country, but this deal should easily soothe much of that.

Though the team no longer has a pick in the first round of April's draft, it was evident that more firepower on offense was necessary. This gives the team one of the fastest, most sure-handed wide receivers in the league.
