Bucks could save relationship with Giannis Antetokounmpo by firing Doc Rivers, hiring 3-time NBA champion coach

The Milwaukee Bucks are in a deep hole right now, as they are down 3-1 in the first round of the NBA Playoffs against the Indiana Pacers. With pretty much only Giannis Antetokounmpo carrying the load, there is a good chance he wants out this offseason, especially if they lose tonight.

However, there are ways to keep him in Milwaukee; one being another coaching change. Fansided’s Joseph Kallan proposed the Bucks fire Doc Rivers, and potentially hire three-time champion head coach Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat.

“Miami’s collapse feels more and more like the early stages of a complete rebuild, and it might start with their most valuable remaining asset: Erik Spoelstra,” Kallan wrote. “Despite being a top-10 coach, a three-time champion, and Team USA’s head coach, Spoelstra could be shown the door if Miami opts for a clean slate — potentially alongside Pat Riley, whose time may finally be up.”

Kallan went on to say that a core of Antetokounmpo and Spoelstra wouldn’t fix all their problems, but could attract answers in free agents and trade requests.

“Spoelstra and Giannis together aren't enough to put the Bucks over the top but it's a stable core, one that could attract talent and free agents and help give Milwaukee a leg up as they change the roster,” Kallan stated.

Spoelstra could definitely be what Milwaukee needs. He knows what it takes to win multiple titles, has worked with multiple top-of-the-line superstars on the Heat and Team USA, and is just an all-around winning coach.

This would only work if Miami does let Spoelstra go. But, if Milwaukee is keen on keeping Antetokounmpo since they have no future, Spoelstra and whoever he attracts are a pretty good idea.
