NFL legend John Elway found himself at the center of a terrifying golf cart accident that left his longtime friend, Jeff Sperbeck, fighting for his life.

The incident occurred Saturday, April 26 in La Quinta, California, after Elway, 64, Sperbeck, and their wives had attended the Stagecoach music festival in nearby Indio. The group was leaving a post-party when tragedy struck. Sources confirm that Sperbeck fell off the back of the moving golf cart, rolling and hitting his head on the asphalt, resulting in a traumatic brain injury.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke with TMZ, Elway, who was present at the scene, immediately called 911 after the accident. Paramedics arrived to find Sperbeck unconscious but still breathing. The 61-year-old was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where doctors attempted to stabilize him.

While it's been reported that Elway may have been driving the cart, no official confirmation has been made. However, sources close to the outlet emphasize that there is no evidence of any wrongdoing on Elway’s part, and the police were not called to the scene as the accident occurred on private property.

Sadly, Sperbeck’s condition remains grave. He has been placed on life support as doctors prepare to harvest his organs for donation.
