Former NHL coach Bruce Boudreau recently floated a deal for Tom Wilson to the Ottawa Senators to aid their playoff push.

During an appearance on TSN OverDrive, while discussing whether the Senators should acquire Wilson, Boudreau suggested that the Caps' heavyweight would be an ideal fit for the Sens.

Bruce Boudreau said that the Senators are very close to being a legitimate playoff contender right now, but they’re missing a physical, experienced forward who can intimidate opponents.

With Brady Tkachuk currently sidelined, adding Tom Wilson would immediately give the Senators the identity and toughness they need to make noise in the postseason.

"I would say get Tom Wilson. If you could get Tom Wilson from the Caps when Brady Tkachuk comes back, they have a playoff team," Budreau said.

The former NHL coach went on to explain:

"If we could get one player and a GM wants to make a trade. And even if he loses the trade in the long term, they can always make that trade. Whether it's. But I, I mean, like, if you had to give up, and I don't know what it is, but I mean, if you had to give up two first-round picks or three first-round picks, if you thought you had a chance to win it, I would do it, but that's me, and that's why I'm not a GM."

Tom Wilson is currently signed to a seven-year, $45.5 million contract with the Washington Capitals. His contract expires at the end of the 2030-31 season, making Wilson an unrestricted free agent.

The 31-year-old enforcer has notched 18 points through nine goals and as many assists in 19 games this season.

Senators' Brady Tkachuk expected to return soon

Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk is expected to return during the team's two-game road trip later this week.

Brady underwent thumb surgery last month after sustaining a torn ligament in his right thumb during a game against the Nashville Predators on Oct. 13. He has missed 15 games so far this season.

The 26-year-old has accumulated three points in as many games. Meanwhile, the Senators currently sit fourth in the Atlantic Division with a 9-6-4 record after 19 games.
