Browns predicted to take Ohio State WR before an OT in Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock draft

This offseason, the Cleveland Browns had two major goals to address, whether it was in free agency, a trade, or the NFL Draft. Those needs were to completely overhaul the offensive line and add a wide receiver or two.

While quarterback is a position of need, there isn't a viable option this offseason, and the Browns are better-off improving the roster around a new QB next year than forcing one onto the roster this offseason.

After a busy first week of free agency fixing the OL, NFL.com's Daniel Jeremiah predicted the Browns to take an Ohio State WR at sixth-overall before an OT with the 24th pick in his latest mock draft. It's a new strategy, but one that makes a lot of sense.

Browns predicted to take Ohio State WR 6th, Utah OT 24th

"It feels like the Browns need to land an offensive tackle and receiver with their two first-round selections," Jeremiah writes. "In this simulation, they're willing to gamble that a Round 1-caliber OT will be waiting for them at Pick No. 24, selecting the highly enticing Tate here."

Carnell Tate, the Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver, is a top receiver in this year's draft class. He's a 6-foot-2, 192-pound receiver who ran a 4.53 40-yard-dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.

But that slower time isn't something to worry about. He's one of the consensus top receivers in this year's draft class.

With teams picking behind them in need of a wide receiver, the Browns might be better off taking Tate at No. 6 and hoping for a good offensive tackle to make it to 24th overall.

At No. 24, Jeremiah has the Browns taking Utah offensive tackle Caleb Lomu. "Cleveland's gamble at No. 6 pays off, as a left tackle prospect with first-round talent is still available here."

If the Browns could land Tate with the No. 6 overall pick, and stick-and-pick at No. 24 overall and land Lomu, the redshirt sophomore out of Utah, it would be a massive boon for the Browns.

The Browns might have to trade up to land a left tackle prospect like Lomu, but in this scenario from Jeremiah, it's essentially the best-case possible for the Browns, landing arguably the top WR and a good left tackle prospect without moving up in the draft.
