Coming into the 2026 regular season, the Cleveland Browns were expected to have multiple quarterbacks starting for them this season.
Deshaun Watson got the Week 1 starting job, but after a rough game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a change was on the table. However, he's since locked things down, going 3-1 since that rough Week 1 game.
Now, heading into Week 6, where does the QB situation in Cleveland stand? According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Watson has done more than enough so far that the odds of a QB change in Cleveland are very low, giving Shedeur Sanders some bad news.
Browns not likely to make a QB change anytime soon
"In Cleveland, Deshaun Watson's runway is longer than it was six weeks ago," Fowler writes. "The Browns are a few plays from being 4-1, and Watson has had some bright moments, particularly with his mobility."
ESPN's Dan Graziano added to this report, noting that Watson is the player they believe "gives them the best chance to win."
While Sanders might be a more intriguing quarterback with long-term potential, the Browns appear to be locked into rolling with Watson for now.
Unless Watson were to get hurt, or he were to start struggling to an egregious degree, the Browns do not appear likely to pivot from Watson anytime soon.
Sanders, who recently hired the same agent Travis Hunter has, is clearly the No. 2 QB in Cleveland, and might not see the field for much, if not all, of the 2026 season.
With four quarterbacks on the roster, and Watson playing great, the Browns trading one of Sanders or Dillon Gabriel this Fall would make a ton of sense.
Watson is firmly entrenched as the starter, and not much is pushing the Browns to make a QB change anytime soon, especially as they hover around playoff contention.
Any hope of a QB change is likely best pushed into the future, as the signs right now point to this being Watson's team going forward.
