The New York Knicks have just one roster spot up for grabs.
Several players, including James Wiseman and veteran forward Bruce Brown, are vying for the final spot.
New York's reluctance to surpass the second apron led to Mitchell Robinson's departure.
Now, the Knicks must decide between Wiseman and Brown, who feel like the two strongest contenders.
However, they could keep both players if the Knicks can facilitate a trade before Tuesday's season opener.
The Athletic's James L. Edwards III envisions a scenario where the Knicks can have Wiseman and Brown on the roster, but they would need to move one of their bench players to do so.
"It’s possible the Knicks keep both a center and Brown if they’re able to pull off a trade between now and the start of the season — maybe Pacôme Dadiet and a couple of second-round picks in a salary dump move," Edwards wrote.
Still just 21, Dadiet has shown little promise on both sides of the court, albeit in limited minutes.
The second-round picks Edwards is referring to would likely be the dealbreaker for any interested teams.

It's not hard to picture why Brown could offer more to the Knicks than Dadiet can. The 30-year-old scored 11.5 points per game during the Denver Nuggets championship season in 2023.
Brown's defensive versatility, guarding players taller and stronger than him, could help the Knicks in the event of an injury to one of their shooting guards or forwards.
Wiseman may be the leading candidate to earn the 14th roster spot, but the Knicks should be analyzing a way to start the season with Brown too.
