Browns' HC update: What to know about Cleveland choosing Todd Monken over Jim Schwartz

1 hour ago 3

The Cleveland Browns announced on Wednesday morning that the team hired former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken to be the franchise's new head coach.

Monken beat out other candidates, including Los Angeles Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase, Washington Commanders running game coordinator Anthony Lynn, and current Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, for the new job.

According to reports, Jim Schwartz is not too fond of the Browns' decision.

Report: Jim Schwartz is "done" with the Browns after Todd Monken's hire

NFL insider Jordan Schultz provided some information on Jim Schwartz's reaction to the Browns hiring Todd Monken as the next head coach of the franchise, and he does not appear to be happy.

Schultz mentioned that the current Browns defensive coordinator "said goodbye to a few people and angrily told others he was 'done' with the Browns."

Although it appears that his time in Cleveland is over, there are still complications behind the coordinator's actions.

Jim Schwartz is still under contract with the Browns, so there's more to what he wants besides just packing up and leaving.

But if he's truly determined to get out of Cleveland, one source has said that "if it has to get ugly, Schwartz is someone who will be perfectly fine making it ugly."

The Super Bowl LII-winning coordinator would get a lot of interest if he got his release from the Browns. Despite the Browns' 5-12 record in 2025, Cleveland's defense ranked in the top five in total yards allowed per game (283.6), passing yards allowed per game (167.2), and total sacks (53).
