Shohei Ohtani is worth even more to the Dodgers than you'd think

There is no one like Shohei Ohtani, and not just on the baseball field.

He's also the most valuable player in MLB by a wide margin, financially. And that's despite the Dodgers having committed to pay him hundreds of millions of dollars.

That's because Ohtani brings in more fans, and revenue, from around the world than any other ballplayer.

Dodgers reporter Jack Harris notes in a new story that L.A.'s revenue increased by more than $200 million in Ohtani's 2024 debut season, pushing the Dodgers over $1 billion in revenue.

In essence, that explains how the Dodgers can just keep shelling out money, like they did to shock baseball and sign Kyle Tucker this winter.

They simply have so much to spend.

"We’re the DODGERS. All caps," Dodgers team president Stan Kasten told the California Post. "It’s the kind of franchise we are."

Harris adds this tidbit -- "The club's sponsorship business alone is now believed to make as much money as roughly half of the league's other 30 teams do overall."

So not only is Ohtani an MVP, the most talented player in the history of the sport.

He's also the reason the Dodgers can spend freely and continue to pursue more talent and more winning on the backs of consecutive World Series titles.

As long as they've got Ohtani, the Dodgers can pretty much do whatever they want.
