Browns GM makes Nick Chubb announcement on free agent signing possibility

Browns fans have held out hope about Nick Chubb.

It's not because the free agent was a huge contributor on the field in 2024 (just 3.3 yards per carry). It's simply because there's an element of fan adoration there.

Chubb was so good for the Browns for such a healthy length of time.

Now, Cleveland moves on without its superstar RB, at least most likely, according to GM Andrew Berry.

“I wouldn’t rule anything out, but I would say it’s probably increasingly unlikely,” Berry said Friday on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan. “We do have two young guys that we like. We think Jerome plays a role. It’s basically kind of maybe seeing how the roles shake out in the running backs room."

The Browns recently renegotiated RB Jerome Ford's contract.

They also used two top-100 picks on running backs: Ohio State's Quinshon Judkins and Tennessee's Dylan Sampson.

That's an impressive top-three RBs that Judkins, Sampson and Ford make.

Maybe the Browns front office will react to an injury elsewhere in the league to trade a starting caliber RB.

Or maybe Cleveland stays put with its current trio and lets Chubb wander elsewhere in the latter stages of free agency.

Either way, the Browns will have plenty of eyes on their QB competition, as we all expect, but also on the running back battle.
