Browns get surprise Nick Chubb free agency update for RB depth chart

The assumption has been that the Cleveland Browns are out on Nick Chubb.

They drafted two talented RBs, Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson. They also brought back Jerome Ford on a new contract.

There doesn't appear to be room for Chubb.

But ESPN's Jeremy Fowler appeared on SportsCenter on Sunday and gave a different perspective.

"The return to Cleveland's not totally off the table, from what I'm told," Fowler said.

It makes sense on some levels. Chubb probably feels a strong comfort level in Cleveland.

But the former star has been injured a couple times in the last few years, and he didn't seem at all like his old self when he was on the field.

Chubb might be better in 2025 being further removed from his injuries, or he might be over the hill.

He wouldn't be guaranteed any playing time with the Browns, either.

Chubb's best role if he came back to Cleveland might be as a mentor to the promising youngsters. And that would definitely be worth something positive to the Browns.

Browns fans certainly would enjoy seeing Chubb back in town, even if it isn't a crucial move from a football perspective.
