Broncos' two-time Pro Bowler predicted to be available in potential trade

The Denver Broncos had a young, intriguing crop of wide receivers behind the veteran Courtland Sutton following the 2025 season, but a blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins for Jaylen Waddle totally reshaped the position for the team.

Waddle will take over as the team's No. 1 wide receiver, moving Sutton to No. 2, which will be a much more natural fit for him. With those two on the roster, many predict that the Broncos could now entertain trading either Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims Jr. or Pat Bryant.

With Waddle and Sutton in front of them, at least one of those players could have their growth stunted a bit, as they may not be able to showcase their full potential. The Broncos may see the idea of acquiring a draft pick for one of these guys as better for the long-term of the team.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report subscribes to this theory. While searching for the top trade candidate on each team following the two mega deals the NFL saw on Monday, Moton landed on Mims for the Broncos. Here were his thoughts:

"With a fully healthy Denver Broncos wide receiver room, Marvin Mims Jr. won't be able to showcase his true potential as an offensive playmaker.

Entering a contract year, Mims was arguably the third-best receiver. Then, Denver acquired Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins, which will knock him down another spot on the depth chart.

Courtland Sutton and Waddle will see most of the targets. Expect Nix to continue looking for his college teammate, Troy Franklin, who caught 65 passes for 709 yards and six touchdowns last year. Pat Bryant, a 2025 third-rounder, is also in the mix.

In the final year of his deal, Mims should want to go elsewhere before his 2027 free-agency bid, and the Broncos should accommodate him.

As an All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowl special teamer, who had 39 catches for 509 yards and six touchdowns in 2025, Mims has trade value."

It should be noted that the Broncos don't have to trade any of these guys, but with Mims hitting free agency next season, Moton makes a good argument that if one is going to be moved, it could be Mims.

Mims' importance to the team is discussed here. While he hasn't been the most productive piece offensively, he is the best deep threat on the roster. However, that's not even the biggest reason the team should hang onto him. His ability as a kick and punt returner is among the best in the NFL and that is something the Broncos should not flirt with changing, unless another player on the roster can take over that role. There is nothing to suggest such a player is currently on the roster, though things could change this summer if one of the new additions is given a long look at taking over that spot.

A better argument that Franklin is the receiver to trade, should the Broncos feel the need to move one of them. Mims should stay. He's a two-time Pro Bowl pick as a special teams guy and the Broncos shouldn't take that for granted.
