Why Texas Longhorns freshman phenom Hannah Wells eats ladybugs

55 minutes ago 2

Hannah Wells is a remarkable two-way force as a freshman for the Texas Longhorns softball team.

Capable of pitching effectively and hitting the ball hard, Wells hasn't wasted any time stepping into a major role for the Longhorns.

On the season, Wells has a 3.11 ERA and she has hit 15 home runs.

Neither sample size is huge, but Wells is only going to grow into a bigger piece of Texas' roster over time.

She also has a fascinating habit: She eats ladybugs.

There's a good reason, too.

Why does Hannah Wells eat ladybugs?

She eats the ladybugs for good luck.

It's a superstition dating back to childhood, according to ESPN.

She actually doesn't chew, but instead swallows the ladybugs whole.

Eating ladybugs for good luck is a new one 😅

Who knew that 'Lady Luck' was really ladybug luck?

If Wells and the Longhorns win the Women's College World Series, maybe more people will try this quirk out for themselves.

At this point, it's worked well for Wells.
