As the frenzy of NFL free agency carries on, the NFL announced compensatory picks for the 2026 NFL Draft. These picks are given to teams based on players they lost in free agency last season.
The Denver Broncos were given two seventh-round picks as compensation for the players they lost last year, which included running back Javonte Williams. Those selections will be Nos. 256 and 257 overall in April's draft. That gives the Broncos nine total picks and three seventh-round choices.
But looking at the number of those selections, the Broncos may be drafting Mr. Irrelevant this year, the nickname given to the player selected last in the draft. Last year, pick No. 257 was the final pick of the draft, used to select Memphis defensive back Kobee Minor, who was chosen by the New England Patriots.
Broncos may select Mr. Irrelevant in 2026 draft
The Broncos have had the "Mr. Irrelevant" pick once in team history. That came in 2017, when John Elway selected the nephew of his long-time friend and rival, Jim Kelly, Chad Kelly. Notable Mr. Irrelevant picks made in recent history include kicker Ryan Succup and current San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Brock Purdy.
