Cowboys-Steelers trade rumor cites Dallas' interest in two-time Pro Bowler

There is a trade rumor floating around involving the Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys that has a two-time Pro Bowler at the center of it.

According to Jane Slater of NFL Network, the Cowboys are "looking at" a trade for Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen, who has been viewed as a cut or trade candidate this offseason.

Slater cautions, however, that the Cowboys aren't making a "strong pursuit" right now, but as we know things can change on a dime in the NFL.

It's not hard to see why the Cowboys would have at least some interest in Queen.

Dallas has one linebacker spot locked up with DeMarvion Overshown, but there is no clear starter next to him after the team released Logan Wilson last month.

Queen has been OK but not great in Pittsburgh, but OK is not good enough to live up to the three-year, $41 million contract he signed in 2024, so we know Pittsburgh would likely have no issue parting with him.

Last season, Queen was effective as a pass-rusher, but he struggled mightily against both the run and in coverage, notching Pro Football Focus grades of 58.4 and 31.3, respectively, in those areas.

It was much of the same for Queen in 2024, although he was better in coverage with a grade of 53.9 that season.

Queen used to be more effective during his days with the Baltimore Ravens, when he had higher grades in run defense (64.8 and 62.8) and coverage (74.8 and 68.2) over his final two years there, so perhaps a change of scenery will help.

Based on Slater's reporting, it doesn't look like there's anything imminent at the moment, but we'll continue to monitor this situation in the days ahead.
