BritBox is embracing the “Year of Austen” with a brand new take on the beloved classic Pride & Prejudice. The Other Bennet Sister, a new series based on the novel by Janice Hadlow, will take us inside the mind of one Mary Bennet (Ella Bruccoleri). You know, not Lizzie, Jane, Kitty, or Lydia. The other Bennet sister.
BritBox not only released the very first official teaser for the new Regency era romance, but set a release date. The Other Bennet Sister will premiere on May 6 on BritBox in the USA and Canada.
The Other Bennet Sister starts in a very familiar place for Austen fans: Longbourn, the Bennet family home. There, Mr. Bennet (Richard E. Grant) and Mrs. Bennet (Ruth Jones) find themselves stuck with five daughters to marry off before the estate passes to a distant relative. While the beautiful Jane (Maddie Close) and witty Lizzie (Poppy Gilbert) are destined for famously fine matches and younger daughters Kitty (Molly Wright) and Lydia (Grace Hogg-Robinson) can’t help but catch the officers’ eyes, middle daughter Mary struggles in the charm department. The Other Bennet Sister not only tracks Mary’s awkward time at home, but follows her on a new adventure, far from Longbourn, to the city of London.
The Other Bennet Sister also stars Indira Varma as Mrs. Gardiner, Richard Coyle as Mr. Gardiner, Tanya Reynolds as Miss Bingley, Dónal Finn as Mr. Hayward, Varada Sethu as Miss Baxter,and Laurie Davidson as Mr. Ryder.
