Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski gets ridiculous snub from ESPN analyst in Cy Young race

20 hours ago 2

The National League Cy Young race has been a great one. Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski, Philadelphia Phillies aces Cristopher Sanchez, Zack Wheeler, Jesus Luzardo, and Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale have competed for the award.

However, with just a couple of weeks left, and only a few more series of the regular season to go, there is a clear favorite for the NL Cy Young award this season. Or, at least there should be.

But ESPN's Bradford Doolittle's advanced metric, AXE, has Sanchez, the Phillies' lefty, as the NL CY Young favorite, not Misiorowski. Despite the Brewers ace being the most deserving of this award, Doolittle's metric suggests Sanchez is the Cy Young favorite.

Jacob Misiorowski snubbed for NL Cy Young by advanced metric even its own creator doesn't believe

"Front-runner: Cristopher Sanchez, Phillies (154.3 AXE). Next nine: 2, Jacob Misiorowski, Brewers (150.9)," Doolittle shared.

Going by his AXE measurement, which factors in a few different statistics, Sanchez should be the NL Cy Young Award winner.

But even Doolittle doesn't believe in this metric's accuracy, as he wrote, "... I favor Misiorowski for the award, even if my own metric suggests it should be Sanchez."

There's no denying that Sanchez has been elite this season. He has a 17-6 record with 7.4 bWAR and a 2.93 ERA over 193.2 innings of work with 215 strikeouts in 31 starts.

But Misiorowski has been better. While his 6.0 bWAR is lower, he has a 15-5 record with a 1.89 ERA in 28 starts with 243 strikeouts in 166.1 innings of work.

There is a massive difference in innings pitched, but the significantly better production from Misiorowski should be enough of a reason for the Brewers ace to win this award over Sanchez.

Even though Doolittle's own metric suggests that Sanchez should be the NL Cy Young Award winner, he believes Misiorowski is the deserving winner of this award.

What Sanchez has done this year is incredible, and he deserves to receive Cy Young votes. But Misiorowski's production is too good for him to be snubbed for this end-of-season award.
