Angel Reese just did something the WNBA has never seen before

1 hour ago 3

Angel Reese is producing perhaps the best season of her young WNBA career, and she set a new league record in the Atlanta Dream's blowout win over the Connecticut Sun on Thursday night.

Reese, who has been prolific on the boards all season long, did not need much time to total 30 points and 10 rebounds for the team in Atlanta as the Dream had its way with the Sun. The forward has become a double-double machine this year, but she took that to another level with an efficient performance in her first game since returning from the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

Reese's WNBA history means she passes many of the league's biggest stars with a statline that seems pretty difficult to produce on the surface. As the Dream have just three games left until the playoffs begin, Reese seems to be rounding into form at the right time.

Here's a look at the history that Reese made on Thursday against the Sun.

How Angel Reese made WNBA history

With 30 points and 10 rebounds in just 25 minutes on Thursday night, Reese made WNBA history by needing the fewest minutes in a game to produce a 30-10 statline. She beat the previous record of 27 minutes, which three players had tied before her.

Reese's limited action came largely because the Dream blew out the Sun, so the end of the game wasn't competitive enough for Atlanta to need her in the game. Reese played just over two minutes in the entire fourth quarter as the Dream cruised to a 44-point victory.

Prior to Nneka Ogwumike in 2016, no WNBA player had ever totaled 30 points and 10 rebounds in less that 29 minutes of action. Since she set the record, though, several players have done so, culminating in Reese achieving the milestone against the Sun.

Reese's dominance on the boards remains her biggest strength, as she has totaled at least 10 rebounds in each of the last 15 WNBA games dating back to the middle of July. This performance also marked her second 30-point game of the season, as the first came against the Mercury in August.

Additionally, this was not the first record that Reese set this season. The Dream forward set two separate rebounding records in a late-August game, one for most rebounds in a game and another for most rebounds in a season. The third-year player continues to find new ways to make WNBA history.
