Braves predicted to sign $61 million All-Star, former Cy Young candidate to replace Spencer Schwellenbach

The Atlanta Braves are in a bit of a tough spot, as their rotation is one of the better ones in baseball on paper, but they’re quite injury-prone, which has been proven recently with Spencer Schwellenbach going on the 60-day IL with bone spurs. The Braves need to find a replacement for him, and fast.

Luckily, there’s an option they’ve been linked to in the past that’s still available. According to Fansided’s Christopher Kline, that option is All-Star ace Lucas Giolito.

“Gallen coming off the board entrenches Lucas Giolito as the best free agent available. I thought the Atlanta Braves made a lot of sense for Gallen given their rotation needs, but since Giolito will come cheaper and won't require paying the QO penalty, he might make even more sense for the Braves…They need Giolito to be a No. 4 or No. 5 starter who can eat innings, and that's what Giolito has been for much of his career. He would not break the bank and would give them much-needed insurance, given the injury concerns in their rotation. This is a no-brainer. and should get done ASAP,” Kline wrote.

Giolito finished 2025 with a 10-4 record, a 3.41 ERA, 121 Ks, and a WHIP of 1.290 over 145 innings pitched. He was also one of the better pitchers in baseball for the first two-thirds of the season.

Currently, Giolito is projected to receive a three-year, $61 million deal. However, with Zac Gallen signing a one-year deal, and being his direct comp in terms of talent, the Braves could probably get him on a rental for much cheaper.

Hopefully, the Braves get to work on getting Giolito on their team soon, as Opening Day is almost here.
