Braves could replace struggling veteran outfielders with .946 OPS prospect

The Atlanta Braves have lost a bit of the ground they had on the Philadelphia Phillies in August, as the lead is now within five games, which is likely too close for comfort with seven games scheduled against Philadelphia in September.

So, with the NL East potentially slipping away, it might be time for a bold move. If there's going to be a change, doing so in the outfield, replacing Mike Yastrzemski or Lane Thomas, would make sense.

If they want to do that, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter highlighted the one player who could either "seamlessly" fit on the bench or earn a starting job right away. That prospect is .946-OPS left-handed hitter Patrick Clohisy.

"With speed and the ability to play all three outfield spots, Clohisy is the type of player who can slot seamlessly onto the big league bench and provide value without seeing regular playing time," Reuter writes.

Having someone who can bolster the depth on the big league roster while coming into games cold off the bench, or getting the occasional start once or twice a week, would be very nice for the home stretch of the season.

Reuter believes Clohisy could do just that, acting as a quality outfield bench option if the Braves elect to promote him to the big leagues.

But Clohisy might wind up as a starter, thanks to what Reuter described as the "lackluster production" from both Yastrzemski and Thomas this season in their platoon out in left field.

Considering Clohisy has a .946 OPS in 38 games at Triple-A this season with a .358 batting average, 48 hits, 29 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, and three homers with 16 RBIs and 22 stolen bases, he's someone worth getting excited about.

Clohisy stole 79 bags in 2025 and has 59 steals in 108 games played this season between Double-A and Triple-A. With elite speed and his solid contact ability, there's a chance Clohisy thrives at the Majors and plays a big role down the stretch for the Braves.
