Bo Bichette Landing Spots: 3 teams that Blue Jays shortstop could sign with

Bo Bichette will be one of the hottest free agents available in the 2025-26 MLB offseason. The Toronto Blue Jays shortstop is coming off a pretty successful rebound campaign, where he hit .311 with 62 extra-base hits, including 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs.

Bichette's defense is a point of contention as he recorded a -10 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) in the position in 1,139 innings played this regular season. That ranked last among all 71 qualified shortstops this year. He had a poor -13 Outs Above Average (OAA) as well.

The Blue Jays are likely to persuade Bichette into an extension before he gets into free agency. The 27-year-old is seen as one of the future leaders of the clubhouse alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr. However, his offensive prowess will also attract other suitors.

Here's taking a look at Bichette's three best landing spots.

#3, New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are an obvious name that should be in the market to upgrade their shortstop production. Anthony Volpe had a dismal year batting at .212 with a .663 OPS while recording a -5 DRS and -6 OAA, one year removed from a American League Gold Glove win.

While Bichette is an obvious remedy offensively, the Yankees will hope for better results with the glove from the two-time All-Star as infield defense has been a major thorn in their side.

#2, Detroit Tigers

Another American League contender team that needs an upgrade at shortstop are the Detroit Tigers. Trey Sweeney started 82 games in the position and hit at .196 during the regular season. Javier Baez, whose has platooned between shortstop and center field, started in 53 games and had a .961 fielding percentage.

The Tigers also have an opening if Bichette agrees to move to second base, due to issues in defense, as Gleyber Torres will be headed into free agency after a successful one-year spell with the team.

#1, Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves seem to be a perfect match outside the Blue Jays for Bichette. Nick Allen started in 126 games for the Braves at shortstop, but only managed a .221 average. The Braves claimed Ha-Seong Kim off waivers in September, and the South Korean professional impressed with 12 RBIs in 24 games.

However, Kim is expected to decline his $16 million player option, part of his two-year contract he had signed with the Tampa Bay Rays. This leaves the Braves with an opportunity to bring in Bichette as a long term solution. His contact hitting prowess is expected to compliment power hitters like Ronald Acuna Jr.
