Blue Jays' problem couldn't be clearer, but the fix isn't as obvious

To win a baseball game, one team has to score more runs than the other team. Sound obvious?

Well, someone should tell the Toronto Blue Jays.

This season, the Blue Jays have disappointed. They went to Game 7 of the World Series in 2025, but they haven't kept that momentum going.

The problem is obvious, though: They're last in MLB in runs.

Can you win games frequently while ranking 30th out of 30 teams in scoring? Seems tough.

This isn't a total secret, although the exact rank is brutal.

It's been clear all season that the Blue Jays' batting lineup has taken a step back. At this point, it's a matter of Toronto figuring out a way to potentially fix it.

Some players, like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., are going to be given a long leash to figure out their struggles. If Vladdy doesn't start hitting for more power, the Blue Jays aren't going to turn this thing around.

Others, though, could be replaced in the lineup if Toronto decides to be a buyer before the MLB trade deadline.

Whether the Blue Jays should buy is actually a tricky question. The American League is a mess, and there are playoff spots to be chased, but Toronto also doesn't appear to be good enough to make noise in October anyway.

Sometimes, problems are obvious, and fixes are harder to figure out. For a previously productive Blue Jays bunch, that's definitely the case this season.
