Blue Jays phenom Arjun Nimmala's .423 average gives Toronto a good problem to have

1 hour ago 3

Arjun Nimmala hasn't missed a beat since his first promotion to Double-A.

In fact, the Toronto Blue Jays' top-100 prospect has been one of the best baseball players on the planet since moving up a rung on the minor league ladder.

He went 3-for-5 on Tuesday night to raise his small sample batting average to .423.

Arjun Nimmala went 3-for-5 tonight including another double. Since his promotion to AA, Nimmala is slashing .423/.444/.500 in 27 plate appearances. Good for a 144 wRC+.

He is 3 years younger than the average age for the level.

The Blue Jays, and the whole prospect-ranking industry, knew they had a good player in Nimmala.

It may turn out that they have a great player.

And the reality is you can never have too many quality middle infield prospects. Nimmala has Jojo Parker coming up after him, and both could turn into strong MLB players.

Eventually one might have to play a different position, but moving guys off of shortstop isn't a bad deal. Usually, they're well equipped to handle a new position.

The Blue Jays would much rather both Nimmala and Parker pan out, and then figure out the defensive stuff later.

And while it's early in his first stint at Double-A, Nimmala certainly looks like a guy who will be ready to keep moving up the ladder whenever the next call arrives.
