The Philadelphia Phillies, just a few weeks ago, looked like they were heading towards a fire sale at the trade deadline with a 9-19 record.
But, since Don Mattingly took over, things have begun to look up, and now they might be buyers rather than sellers. And if they do wind up buying, more offensive firepower is a must for this club.
Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer linked the Phillies to San Francisco Giants All-Star Rafael Devers as a potential trade target. However, despite Devers' link to Dave Dombrowski, there are two issues with a potential deal.
"Despite the Dave Dombrowski connection, though, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber are locked in at first base and DH, respectively," Rymer writes.
Even though Devers would make a ton of sense as a potential trade target for the Phillies, there is an issue with Harper and Schwarber taking up the two key spots that the Giants' slugger could play in Philadelphia.
Phillies have 2 issues with a Rafael Devers trade
Schwarber can play the outfield, but his defense is a huge negative, and the Phillies are much better off leaving him at DH, where he's thriving this season with 17 homers through May 12th.
Harper is sticking at first base, though there have been some rumors the last few years about Harper moving back to the outfield to open the door for an addition at first base.

In a perfect world, Harper could move back to right field or left field, and he could be a solid defender while the Phillies add a premier slugger like Devers.
But, such an ideal scenario isn't likely to work out for the Phillies even if they took the big chance to give it a go. Harper hasn't played in the outfield in some time, and the rest of the outfield would have some question marks after such a trade.
Adding someone like Devers would be very fun for this Phillies team, but with the logjam at first base and DH, the only realistic option would be putting him at third base over Alec Bohm, which is a massive risk defensively.
