Blue Jays' Josh Kasevich might change Toronto's infield plans

Josh Kasevich is a name worth remembering for Toronto Blue Jays fans.

Right now, the Blue Jays have a mostly set infield of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Ernie Clement, Andres Gimenez and Kazuma Okamoto.

Eventually, though, Kasevich could force his way into the picture.

He has gotten off to a great start this Spring Training, which is an encouraging sign after injuries hampered him in 2025.

MLB.com's Sam Dykstra listed Kasevich in a new article as one of five prospects who has stood out early in the spring.

"Many across the game expected Kasevich to be a part of Toronto’s World Series contender last year after he hit .325 with an .815 OPS in 41 Triple-A games back in 2024," Dykstra writes. "But a stress reaction in his back delayed his season debut and a wrist issue during his rehab set him back further; by the time he did return, he slugged only .184 in 29 games with Buffalo and didn’t pick up an extra-base hit in 74 Arizona Fall League plate appearances, making his power a major question mark heading into his age-25 season. So what did Kasevich do Sunday in the first at-bat of his second Grapefruit game? Go yard, of course, with a 103 mph drive out to left-center on a 2-2 fastball from fellow righty Devin Sweet. It was a barrel that landed atop JetBlue Park’s Green Monster; that is to say, it was no cheapie."

The Blue Jays have done well in recent years mixing positive development with outside acquisitions.

Nathan Lukes and Addison Barger are examples of two players that came through the system and made big impacts on the run to the World Series.

Maybe, if things break his way, Kasevich can do the same.

"Even in his recovery, Kasevich showed the quality swing decisions and bat-to-ball skills that make him an interesting Jays prospect but lacked the impact," Dykstra writes. "If that’s back, he could factor into Toronto’s infield in the first half."

Clement and Gimenez are both versatile, which helps the cause of finding a spot for Kasevich if he earns it.
