The Toronto Blue Jays are in need of some good pitching news.

It has felt like since the offseason that the only updates they're getting on their talented arms are injuries.

Trey Yesavage is working his way back, though. He's getting closer.

The young right-hander made a rehab start down at Dunedin on Thursday, and it wasn't all great. He went 2.2 innings, allowing four runs while striking out six and walking just one.

The four runs all came in the first inning as his opponent racked up a bunch of singles in a row.

Yesavage threw 52 pitches, 34 of them for strikes.

Based on the pitch count, it seems he'd have a couple rehab starts still to go.

"More importantly, Yesavage's velocity held and command was solid," wrote The Athletic's Mitch Bannon on X. "We'll find out Blue Jays' next steps tomorrow."

Adding a fascinating factor here is the weather up north, where the Blue Jays have Double-A New Hampshire and Triple-A Buffalo. Will they move Yesavage up the ladder to face better hitters if the weather conditions might be brutal? They might have to play it a little bit by ear.

They could also decide to get him back to the big leagues early and piggyback his first couple starts with a reliever before he's fully stretched out.

There's a lot still to be figured out, but at least Yesavage is getting closer. Finally a little bit of positive Blue Jays injury news.
