One of the Toronto Blue Jays' best players of the 2010s might soon be looking at the end of his MLB career.
Kevin Pillar, the brilliant defensive centerfielder with some sneaky pop, hasn't played for the Blue Jays since 2019, but his highlight reel still runs easily through the mind when recalling his days in Toronto.
This weekend, Pillar was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers. That means he's off the 40-man roster.
The next possible steps are that Pillar is traded, claimed off waivers, or clears waivers and either takes an assignment to Triple-A or asks for his unconditional release.
Pillar played for the Blue Jays from 2013 through 2019.
Now 36 years old, Pillar hit just .209 this season for the Rangers in 43 at bats.

Pillar has also played for the Giants, Red Sox, Rockies, Mets, Dodgers, Braves, White Sox and Angels.
He's a lifetime .255 hitter, with defense definitely his calling card.
SI's Brady Farkas writes, "It's unclear if he'll have any interest from other teams."
If this is it for Pillar, he left plenty of memories for those who watched him roam the centerfield turf at the Rogers Centre.
