The Aaron Rodgers saga continues to drag on, with no official decision made. At this point, it remains unclear whether Rodgers will ultimately choose retirement. The hints and signs are there, but there’s been no confirmation from Rodgers himself and no signed deal.
Although nothing has been finalized on paper, it's believed Rodgers has given the Steelers a verbal commitment. While a verbal agreement is far from a completed deal, it could explain why Pittsburgh hasn’t pursued a trade for another veteran quarterback.
“I just think verbally, behind the scenes, not that he guaranteed it, but he’s told [the Steelers], 'Listen, I'm gonna play for you. I just don’t want to go there and then miss part of mandatory minicamp because of my personal issues. I'm pretty sure they're gonna be solved by the end of May, at least in my satisfaction where I can give you my all,’” Ian O’Connor said.
Rodgers has faced questions about whether he even wants to continue playing. It appears that once his personal matters are resolved, he’ll make a final decision. However, one thing he has made clear is that he will not be joining the New Orleans Saints.
“That's the answer. No. I've played there a couple of times but no. The answer is no. I'm too old, I don't want to live in Louisiana. Sorry,” Rodgers said.
The Saints, meanwhile, are in need of a veteran quarterback. Their current quarterback room lacks experience—some have even labeled it "QB purgatory."

“They are in purgatory with not a single player who has won a regular-season game. Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener have both had decent showings but nothing to confirm a starting spot, especially after the team drafted Tyler Shough in the second round,” Hery Acosta wrote.
While Rodgers would certainly be the ideal candidate, he’s made it clear he has no interest in playing for the Saints or relocating to Louisiana. His blunt rejection further narrows the list of teams he could potentially suit up for in the 2025 season.
