Kiyan Anthony has spent his whole basketball career with that last name.
He's in the shadow of his dad, the Syracuse national champion, Olympic hero and NBA legend Carmelo Anthony.
It can't have been easy, but now Kiyan is trying to pave his own path.
Kiyan is a freshman at SU, having chosen to attend his dad's college, having leaned into the spotlight rather than out of it.
ESPN's Myron Medcalf wrote a large feature story on Kiyan this week, with lots of insights.
One of them came from the legendary coach Jim Boeheim.
"Yeah, the comparison is a little unfair," Boeheim told ESPN about Carmelo vs. Kiyan.
"Carmelo was listed at 6-foot-8, 220 pounds when he led the Orange to the title," Medcalf wrote. "He averaged 22.2 points and 10 rebounds that season and made 48% of his 3-point attempts during the NCAA tournament before going No. 3 in the 2003 NBA draft, two spots behind LeBron. Kiyan is 6-5 and 185 pounds, averaging 11.5 points in 22.9 minutes per game off the bench. He can't bully every opposing player the way his father could, but even if Kiyan develops into an elite player, what would that mean when his father is the greatest the school has ever produced?"
Kiyan is doing what he can to stand out.
Coming off the bench this season, Kiyan has been in attack mode when he gets on the floor. He doesn't play with the hesitancy of a college freshman. He plays with the aggression of an Anthony.
It hasn't always led to perfect plays. There are growing pains and plenty of lessons to learn.
But this Anthony, wearing his father's NBA No. 7, is doing his best to make the family name proud in the legacy of the retired No. 15 that 'Melo wore at SU.
