Shaman is one of the most popular picks in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.4, and a big reason for that is the Ascendancy itself. One of the most popular passives you’ll find is the Furious Wellspring that lets you generate Rage. By itself, each point of Rage grants 1% more attack damage, but multiple Notables in the passive tree also use it for additional damage and defense bonuses.
This article lists some of the best Shaman builds in Path of Exile 2 that you can try in patch 0.4. Along with that, there are also some skill combos to give you an idea of how to get started.

4 best Shaman builds you can try in Path of Exile 2 patch 0.4
1) Walking Calamity Shaman
Walking Calamity is the most common Shaman build in PoE2 (Image via GGG)Walking Calamity in Path of Exile 2 allows you to rain down a meteor. It’s a great map-creating skill that you can activate and take a walk around. While you can use it with other characters, it works well with the Shaman due to his Ascendancy passive Furious Wellspring that generates range based on mana regeneration.
Here’s what the skill setup looks like:
- Maul: Close Combat - Rapid Attacks - Rage - Ancestral Call
- Furious Slam: Fist of War - Aftershock - Rapid Attacks - Close Combat - Magnified Area
- Fury of the Mountain: Prolonged Duration - Rapid Attacks - Upheaval - Rage
- Walking Calamity: Concentrated Area - Elemental Armament - Prolonged Duration - Fire Attunement
- Rampage: Momentum - Magnified Area - Heft - Burgeon - Stomping Ground
- Ferocious Roar: Raging Cry - Infernal Cry - Magnified Area - Efficiency
- Herald of Ash: Magnified Area - Cannibalism
For mobbing, using Walking Calamity alongside Furious Slam and Maul will be enough to wipe all enemies in the range of Herald of Ash. However, bossing needs a little prep. Use Fury of the Mountain to generate fissures while the boss is spawning, then activate Ferocious Roar and Walking Calamity. Follow up with Rampage to activate the fissures for additional damage.
With investment into skill duration, you can have the skill active for up to 30 seconds, so you don’t need to worry about activating it often during boss fights. Pairing it alongside Rampage allows you to keep bosses stunned for most of the fight and dish out a lot of damage in a single use.
2) Elemental Tornado Shaman
A proper elemental Tornado can be challenging to pull off (Image via GGG)Tornado in Path of Exile 2 is different from Tornado Shot. It’s a spell that creates a giant twister that pulls in enemies, and is a great option for crowd control. However, if the skill interacts with any elemental surface effect, it will absorb that element to deal additional DoT.
Here’s what the skill setup looks like:
- Elemental Weakness: Burning Inscription - Focused Curse - Rapid Casting - Heightened Curse - Efficiency
- Tornado: Considered Casting - Swift Affliction - Zenith - Physical Mastery - Advancing Storm
- Frost Bomb: Potent Exposure - Overabundance - Compressed Duration - Cooldown Recovery
- Ice Nova: Astral Projection - Pinpoint Critical - Frost Nexus - Spell Echo - Rising Tempest
- Elemental Conflux: Compressed Duration
- Firestorm: Rising Tempest - Embitter - Spell Cascade - Expand
- Sigil of Power: Magnified Area - Prolonged Duration - Cooldown Recovery
Each element grants a set amount of DoT to the Tornado, but there’s no limit on how many elements it can absorb. This makes it easy to ramp up the damage as long as you can generate multiple elemental ground effects.
For that, the build uses Burning Inscription for Ignited Ground and Frost Nexus for Chilled Ground. Firestorm can consume Cold Infusion from Frost Bomb to create a better storm as additional damage, while Sigil of Power grants overall spell damage.
3) Minion Army Shaman
Minion players can now make a bigger army (Image via GGG)Making a minion build in Path of Exile 2 is now much easier with Shaman’s Sacred Flow Ascendancy passive. It grants you 40 Spirit for each unused charm slot, allowing you to have an additional 120 Spirit. Paired with reservation efficiency passives, you can have a lot more minions than only other build in the game.
Here’s what the skill setup looks like:
- Skeletal Brute: Magnified Area - Prolonged Duration - Bidding - Last Gasp
- Skeletal Cleric: Last Gasp - Meat Shield - Rapid Casting
- Skeletal Storm Mage: Shock - Overcharge - Muster - Feeding Frenzy
- Pain Offering: Brutus’ Brain - Danse Macabre - Guatelitzi's Ablation - Magnified Area
- Skeletal Reaver: Last Gasp - Sacrificial Lamb
- Spectre (Gargantuan Wasp): Rapid Attacks - Feeding Frenzy - Infernal Legion - Heavy Swing - Muster
The main damage dealers are your Spectres, the Gargantuan Wasp, who you’ll find within Act 4 and the Interlude 3. After you summon one of each type of minion, spend the remaining Spirit on the Spectres. The remaining minions are there for you to rotate Pain Offering.
The Furious Wellspring Ascendancy passive will allow you to generate Rage, which you use to improve your minion damage and attack speed by anointing Commanding Rage on the amulet. If you don’t want to play around Rage, then Warlord Leader is also a good alternative.
4) Flame Breath Shaman
It's literally a dragon breathing fire (Image via GGG)Flame Breath is a Wyvern exclusive skill in Path of Exile 2 and is one of the strongest single-target abilities. However, with proper Rage and mana management, you can have it up for a long duration and turn it into an AoE clear.
Here’s what the skill setup looks like:
- Rend: Rapid Attacks - Magnified Area - Elemental Armament - Heft - Armour Break
- Oil Barrage: Rapid Attacks - Elemental Armament - Burgeon - Concentrated Area
- Flame Breath: Elemental Armament - Burgeon - Magnified Area
- Devour: Charge Profusion - Empowered Sparks - Thrill of the Kill
- Lingering Illusion: Prolonged Duration - Charge Profusion - Remnant Potency
- Herald of Ash: Magnified Area - Cannibalism
While Flame Breath is the fun one-button skill, you’ll want to have as much damage as possible. For that, use Devour and Lingering Illusion to generate Power Charge. This process will imbue your attacks with lightning. Herald of Ash is there for better AoE, while Oil Barrage acts as another great single-target skill.
Similar to Walking Calamity, to use the skill often, you’ll need Furious Wellspring. In addition, having as much mana and skill efficiency as possible is important for better uptime.
