Bears called out by NFL exec for not addressing their biggest need yet this offseason

This offseason, the Chicago Bears made a few interesting roster moves. They traded DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills, getting out of his huge contract while also landing a second-round pick.

But, in terms of additions, they bolstered their defense with the signings of Devin White at linebacker and Coby Bryant at safety. Both were smart moves and widely praised.

However, one NFL executive, as Mike Sando of The Athletic shared, called out the Bears for not addressing their biggest need of an edge rusher this offseason.

NFL exec calls out Bears' lack of edge addition

"The pass rush has been their biggest question on defense the last few years," one NFL exec said. "... They need to improve the D-line, but they couldn't really do it because they are locked into guys with guaranteed money. They didn't really address their biggest defensive need."

Chicago needs a pass rusher/edge rusher, and despite such a huge need at a premium position, the Bears haven't been able to address the position this offseason.

Their contract commitments have hampered the Bears' ability to spend, which has led to no edge rusher help being acquired for the Bears this offseason.

While they could add a few players, as seen with Bryant and White, the edge rusher spot was difficult to address. Boye Mafe landed a $60 million deal, while Trey Hendrickson got $112 million over four years.

MoreDayo Odeyingbo named Bears most overpaid player for 2026

The Bears $48 million decision an offseason ago with Dayo Odeyingbo was a major swing-and-a-miss. A motivated Odeyingbo can turn things around in 2026, but it won't be simple coming off a torn Achilles.

Montez Sweat is a good edge defender, but the Bears need a whole lot more help than Sweat and Odeyingbo. The 2026 NFL Draft is a prime opportunity for edge help, and a decent one like Zion Young should make it to 25th overall.

This NFL executive is calling out the Bears for not addressing their biggest need yet this offseason. They have time to address this roster hole, but the need is glaring, which might make it harder to address in the draft and the trade market.
