Barcelona have reportedly cooled their interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi after talks. The Catalan side were blown away by his wage demands after pushing to sign a pre-agreement in January.
According to a report in Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have been chasing Guehi since his move to Liverpool fell through. They were looking to lure the Englishman on a free transfer next summer, but have now paused their talks after learning his wage demands.
Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Liverpool remain interested, and Fabrizio Romano has not ruled out a January move. The journalist was talking on his YouTube channel when he said that the race remains open, with Manchester City also interested and said:
“What I can tell you today is the status of the story for Marc Guehi before Christmas. I say as of now, because in the market, you never know what happens. As of today, there is still nothing advanced with any club for January. The feeling of those close to Marc Guehi is that the most likely outcome of this story is a move in the summer on a free transfer. Staying at Crystal Palace until the end of the season, and then joining his favourite club in the summer." “There is Liverpool in the race. There is Bayern in the race. There are more English clubs, including Man City, also calling. Barcelona and Real Madrid just made some calls to understand the situation already at the end of October and the beginning of November. We will see, in case they decide to enter the race officially or not. But for Guehi, there is a lot of interest.”Marc Guehi can leave Crystal Palace on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season. He is free to sign a pre-contract with any club from January 1, 2026.
Barcelona target will not sign a new deal at Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Marc Guehi will not be signing a new deal at the club. He revealed that the Barcelona target has already informed the club and said (via Sky Sports):
"I think Marc has already told us that he doesn't sign a new contract, so he will leave next year. The club wanted [him to stay]. They offered Marc a new contract. But he said, 'no, I want to make something different'. And that's normal. And for us, it's how we can deal with this situation? [What] is the best way to get this next step done? And that's all about how we are talking together."Marc Guehi was close to joining Liverpool in the summer, but Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the move on deadline day as they could not secure a replacement for the Barcelona target.
