The Atlanta Braves need arms, and they could look to strengthen their starting rotation with a proven veteran. TJ French of Heavy.com proposed a trade for the Braves to do just that, pitching a trade in a deal for Jose Berrios of the Toronto Blue Jays.
French proposed a trade in which Atlanta would acquire Berrios while sending left-handed reliever Dylan Dodd and right-handed pitching prospect Lucas Braun to Toronto.
“This hypothetical trade idea makes sense for the Braves because they could use a true inning-eater in their starting rotation, regardless of how healthy Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep are when they return,” French wrote.
Berrios has long been known as one of baseball’s most durable starters, but it's important to note that he's dealing with elbow inflammation.
“Jose Berrios is an arm that is pretty much guaranteed to give 30+ starts a season,” French added.
“And the craziest part is the Blue Jays might not even have the room for him in their rotation,” French wrote. “This opens the door for him to become the subject of trade rumors, and Atlanta is a team that could capitalize on that opportunity.”
For the Braves, acquiring a reliable starter like Berrios would provide much-needed innings as they navigate injuries and workload management throughout the season. However, if he isn't healthy, there's little reason to entertain this.
