The Washington Capitals made the announcement everyone was waiting for.
On Sunday, they made it official that Cole Hutson is coming to the NHL.
The Capitals announced that Hutson is signing a three-year contract that begins this season.
The deal will be for $2.925 million, which works out to $975,000 per season.
Hutson just concluded his college career at Boston University.
Hutson, a left-shot defenseman, was the No. 43 overall pick (second round) by the Capitals in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Since, then, his stock has risen, and the 19-year old is expected to be an instant-impact player when he arrives in the league.
Hutson won a gold medal at the 2025 World Juniors representing the United States.
His older brother, Lane, is a star defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens.
This season at Boston University, Cole Hutson put up 10 goals and 22 assists (32 points) in 34 games.
The Caps didn't waste much time deciding that they want Hutson with their squad right now.
They've got a bit of work to do down the stretch, but adding a guy like Hutson is huge both for his experience and for the Capitals' chances of surging before this season is over.
