The Atlanta Braves have been derailed by injuries in recent years and could find themselves in a position to land another solid arm.
With pitchers sidelined heading into the campaign, Duke Demming of Sports Illustrated recently pitched a blockbuster deal that would bring an established arm to Atlanta.
Braves receive: Luis Castillo
Mariners receive: Sean Murphy, Owen Murphy
“The Atlanta Braves are dealing with some serious injuries to their starting rotation this offseason. After an impressive 2025 campaign, Spencer Schwellenbach has been shut down because of bone spurs. Breakout candidate Hurston Waldrep was also shut down during Spring Training with elbow inflammation. Both pitchers underwent surgery in February, leaving two open spots in Atlanta’s rotation,” he wrote.
The proposal would give Atlanta immediate help in the rotation, something Castillo could certainly provide. The veteran right-hander has long been viewed as one of the better starters in baseball and would instantly help a Braves staff that has been banged up in recent seasons.
Castillo would absolutely give Atlanta a legitimate top-of-the-rotation arm while taking off some pressure from guys like Chris Sale and Spencer Strider. Moving on from Murphy isn’t ideal, but he hasn’t exactly been good recently, either.
There’s risk involved, which most deals have, but Castillo would be a great addition.
