The New York Yankees have been linked to an upgrade at the shortstop position after Anthony Volpe managed a .222 season. The team has been linked to free agent Bo Bichette; however, recent rumors have suggested a blockbuster trade with the Texas Rangers.

Corey Seager, the Rangers' highest-paid player attached to a ten-year $325 million contract, has been floated as a probably trade option. While Seager brings in some much-needed veteran experience, there have been certain question marks over his health and his contract size.

Here are some reactions on X:

"Anything is better than Volpe Joez so obviously," a fan wrote.

"If he can play 140 games it's a no brainer," a fan said.

Other fans had a more negative reaction to the possible trade.

"Last four years yes. Next six years at $31.5M per year? No, hard pass," a fan countered.

"No. Always hurt. Stanton light. Bichette is the play," a fan demanded.

"He'll be 32 next April, hasn't played 130 games in 3 years and there's no way Hal's taking an extra $31m AAV over the next 6 years," a fan added.

Seager is a five-time All-Star shortstop. He has a combined 18.4 bWAR in the last three seasons for Texas, having played only 344 games. He also showcased elite defense in 2025, managing a +16 Defensive Runs Saved. He is still to make $31 million annually over the next six years, which will take him to his age-37 season.

Corey Seager trade could see Yankees 3B on the move

The Yankees acquired third baseman Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies in this year's trade window to give them some stability for the latter part of the season. In 54 games, McMahon hit at .208 with 4 home runs and 16 RBIs.

According to Sports Illustrated's Tobey Schulman, a trade with Texas could involve McMahon, who is owed $23.8 million over the next two years.

"The first name Texas might want in return is a current member of New York's Major League roster," Schulman wrote. "Moved at this past trade deadline, Ryan McMahon could be an easy throw-in for the Yankees. This frees up a third-base spot for Anthony Volpe and Jose Caballero."

Other names in the possible trade included George Lombard Jr., Bryce Cunningham, and Ben Hess. The Rangers require increasing their pitching depth after finishing 81-81 this season.
