Analyst reveals thought-provoking Chiefs RB plan

1 hour ago 4

The Kansas City Chiefs' offseason plans, for most, have to revolve around getting Patrick Mahomes ample production from the run game.

With Kareen Hunt and Isiah Pacheco both free agents, it feels like this offseason is the time when the Chiefs will wipe the slate clean and overhaul the room.

But how will they do it?

Will it be via the draft with someone like Jeremiyah Love? Or free agency with someone like Travis Etienne?

For CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, he thinks the Chiefs will go all out in free agency to solve their running back issues.

“The Chiefs appear ready to strike at the running back position this month,” Jones wrote. “They don't think Jeremiyah Love will fall to them at No. 9 (a few of our draft analysts have him going one spot earlier, to New Orleans) so Kansas City won't wait until the draft. The Chiefs may not be in the mix for a top-of-market player like Kenneth Walker III, but a player in that $8 million per year area could be one for them.”

Is free agency right path for Chiefs?

Given their cap situation, you could make the case that the draft is the best path.

Conversely, though, the Chiefs might want a ready-made NFL product behind Mahomes.

Someone who they won't have to "hope" will be able to be productive, but a player who they know will be able to produce in Andy Reid's offense, and that is a key difference.

Yes, Love might be the game-changer many think, but he could take time to develop into the stud back the Chiefs want. Its clear Kansas City isn't content with waiting around. It wants a known commodity.

And that is likely why free agency, not the draft, is the path the Chiefs will likely take to address their running back needs.
