Analyst offers harsh yet fair Drake Maye take after Super Bowl loss

1 hour ago 3

The New England Patriots' fairytale season didn't have the ending the franchise wanted, getting blown out in the Super Bowl by the Seattle Seahawks 29-13.

At one stage, it was 19-0 with the Patriots being held scoreless for three quarters as Drake Maye was sacked six times, threw two interceptions, and fumbled in what was a tough outing in Santa Clara.

In truth, the Patriots' offense never really got going, aside from a brief moment, but that was washed away with a Maye interception.

For CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles, in his winners and losers piece from the Super Bowl, Maye was named as one of the losers.

"Whenever -- or if ever -- Maye watches film from this game, he'll rue several missed opportunities," Pereles wrote. "Yes, he was under siege all game, and we'll get to that in a bit. But Maye missed several throws he could have made and normally does make. He looked flustered, and just when he appeared to get some semblance of rhythm, he threw an awful interception that all but sealed the game."

Maye and Patriots end season in poor fashion

For most, heading into the Super Bowl, the big watch was always going to be how the Patriots' offensive line held up against Seattle's ferocious defensive front.

And it was evident early on that Maye was going to be in for a tough day, and that's exactly what happened.

Let's not forget, this was Maye's second season as well, so there is plenty of room to grow for the young quarterback. But this Super Bowl will be a big learning experience for him and the Patriots under Mike Vrabel.

They got their lunch money stolen along with their souls by a Seattle team that wasn't going to be denied.
