Our nation is foundering
United States of America. Land of the free. Home of the brave.
1607. The new land’s first settlement. Passengers on that Mayflower crate paid 10 pennies. Our first skilled workers earned 6 pounds annually. Big money was hustling tobacco and fur skins,
The job a hot 15 hours a week. Not that I was there, but I know nobody traded in their Escalade yearly. Rent was cheap. Hamptons real estate agents didn’t come till weeks later.
Nobody owned designer sneakers. Forget T-shirts and jeans. Ladies wore bras and drawers and didn’t peel either off often. Botox? Forget it. If friends came over the spread was mutton, nuts, roots and wild game. A VIP got pork. Shove TV. The guests hummed. Early cellphones? A guy beat a drum.
Those copper pennies we now throw out arrived 1793. Declaration of Independence, written in 1776. Constitution, created in 1787. Dollar bill in 1792. Joe Biden about 20 minutes later. Nancy Pelosi? Her colorist worked the Garden of Eden.
We were newcomers. Americans. Patriots. What happened to us? How did we get to where we are today? OK, so Nixon didn’t help. Neither did de Blasio. But we got an 11-year-old Commie looking to be mayor? An ex bartender wanting to shove out Schumer? Jerry Nadler giving up his extra-large, double-size, wide-set seat? And to park a car costs more than to buy a car?

On a bad slide
The elderly are overlooked. The sick untreated. The rents unaffordable. The unhinged walk the streets. The Secret Service too secret to locate a shooter. The criminals walking free. The children lacking proper education. It’s democracy at risk. There’s racial and religious hate. We’re sliding. There’s economic insecurity. Lack of patriotism, threats to democracy, spread of misinformation, disrespect for the flag — remember when a NFL star took a knee?
And rather than love the USA, which helped make her a star, Rosie O’Donnell relocated to Europe. That’s a fair trade. At least we got Prince Harry whose marriage could last another six weeks.
We are losing the United States of God-bless-us America. And America just lost Charlie Kirk.
The way we’re going, we’ll definitely have to give many American families credit — because they soon won’t be able to get along without it.
And not just only in New York, kids, not just only in New York.
