Jemimah Rodrigues revealed that she was mentally not in good shape and was 'crying almost every day' after guiding India to victory with a spectacular knock in the Women's World Cup 2025 semifinal against Australia. She admitted that she was feeling very exhausted towards the end of her innings, but thanked the Almighty for helping her fight till the end.
India pulled off a record chase of 339 to stun Australia by five wickets in the second semifinal of the Women's World Cup 2025 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Thursday, October 30. Batting at No. 3, Jemimah starred in the chase with an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls.
Speaking after being named Player of the Match, an emotional Jemimah revealed that she had not been in great mental space lately. She confessed (via Cricbuzz):
"Firstly, last year I was dropped from this World Cup. This year I came and I thought, okay, I'll try it. I was in good form. But things back to back just kept happening and I couldn't control anything. I had such amazing people around me who believed in me. "I've almost cried every day throughout this tour. I was not doing well mentally, going through a lot of anxiety. Then being dropped was rather a challenge for me. But I think all I had to do was show up and God just took care of everything," the 25-year-old went on to add.India lost openers Shafali Verma (10) and Smriti Mandhana (24) early in the massive chase, but Jemimah and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (89 off 88) added 167 runs for the third wicket to keep the hosts in the hunt. Australia, however, kept striking crucial blows to put pressure back on India. Jemimah admitted she was drained out towards the end, but took inspiration from the Bible. She said:
"I think initially I was just trying to stay focused, I just keep talking to myself. But towards the end I was just quoting one scripture from the Bible. Because I had lost energy, I was very tired. I was doing one scripture that said, 'just stand still and God will fight for you'. And I just stood there and he fought for me."Jemimah's exceptional knock against the Aussies on Thursday featured 14 fours. Following Harmanpreet's exit, Deepti Sharma (24), Richa Ghosh (26) and Amanjot Kaur (15*) all chipped in to help India rewrite history books.
