Allen and Duncanville have been two of the premier programs in the Dallas-Fort Worth “Metroplex.”

Saturday afternoon, one of these titanic squads will advance to Arlington to play for a state championship. The Eagles and the Panthers square off in the Texas University Interscholastic League 6A Division I state semifinals, which takes place at Memorial Stadium in Mesquite.

Allen comes into Saturday’s showdown with a perfect 14-0 record. Following a narrow escape in the bi-district round against Lewisville, the Eagles have rounded more into form with three straight decisive wins, the latter a 33-21 victory against defending 6A DI champion North Crowley in the regional finals.

Now, they set their sights on a Duncanville squad intent on returning to AT&T Stadium after not getting to go last season due to the Panthers’ loss to eventual champion North Crowley in the state semis.

This season, Duncanville lost its second game, by one point to Waxahachie. But since then, the Panthers have looked dominant, with wins against the likes of DeSoto, Cedar Hill and Rockwall-Heath.

Last week, they avenged that regular-season loss to Waxahachie with a 35-27 triumph for the regional title.

Friday’s semifinal winner plays the winner of the other semifinal, between Galena Park North Shore and Lake Travis, which is taking place Saturday night in Houston, at next week’s UIL State championship round in Arlington.
