Weather wreaked havoc on the high school football schedule in the Dallas/Fort Worth and East Texas areas in Week 9 of the regular season.
With storms expected to hit on Friday evening, several teams opted to move their games to Thursday, while the premiere game in the state — Allen at Prosper — moved to a 1 p.m. kickoff on Friday.
Boy, did that game live up to the hype. Prosper missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired to help Allen preserve a 31-30 win in a battle of undefeated teams.
In Austin, Lake Travis had no such consternation against rival Austin Westlake. The Cavs rolled over the Chaps, 31-10, to move up from No. 20 to No. 13 in this week’s The Sporting News Texas top 25 rankings and knock out Westlake, which lost to Lake Travis for the first time since 2019.
Frisco Lone Star also picked up a nice win by knocking off previously undefeated Frisco Wakeland, 34-13. The Rangers are 8-0 (6-0).
There are no battles of top 25 teams on the slate this week, but No. 9 Galena Park North Shore has a tough one at Sheldon C.E. King. Both teams are 7-1.
Here are our new weekly rankings:
No. 1 Southlake Carroll Dragons (9-0, 7-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, Keller Central, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/24/25, Southlake Carroll 49, Hurst L.D. Bell 0
W/L Streak: 9 wins
Previous ranking: 1
Carroll continued its impressive march to an undefeated regular season with their second shutout of the year — a 49-0 win over Hurst L.D. Bell. How great are things in Dragon Land? Star QB1 Angelo Renda did not throw a touchdown in last week’s game, but he and teammates David Penn and Parker Harris each scored two rushing touchdowns.
No. 2 Allen Eagles (8-0, 6-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, McKinney Boyd, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/24/25, Allen 31, Prosper 30
W/L Streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 2
In one of the best games of the season so far, Allen held off Prosper, 31-30, in a battle of undefeated Eagles. Allen led, 21-10, at halftime, before Prosper struck for two quick touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 24-21 lead. Allen regained the lead with a little more than a minute left before Prosper missed a 46-yard field goal that likely decided the District 6-6A title. Like Carroll, Allen is set up for a 10-0 finish in the regular season.
No. 3 Richmond Randle Lions (8-0, 5-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, at Santa Fe, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/25/25, Richmond Randle 70, Rosenberg Terry 0
W/L Streak: 24 wins
Previous ranking: 3
Randle has punished its last two opponents, beating Baytown Lee, 75-0, and Rosenberg Terry, 70-0, for its 23rd and 24th straight wins. The defending Class 5A Division II state champions are two wins over Santa Fe (5-2) and Lamar Consolidated (2-6) away from going 10-0 in the regular season and taking a 26-game winning streak into the playoffs. Junior running back Landen Williams-Callis has 1,850 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on the season.
No. 4 Aledo Bearcats (8-0, 6-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, Azle, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Aledo 72, Richland 10
W/L Streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 5
A road contest at Richland looked like a potential trap game for Aledo. Yeah, right. The Bearcats dominated the Royals as they cruised to a 62-point win to remain undefeated and claim its 133rd straight district game. Quarterback Lincoln Tubbs was 12-of-19 passing for 270 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for 138 yards and another score on 12 carries. It looks like a deep playoff run is in store for the 12-time state champs.
No. 5 Duncanville Panthers (5-1, 4-1)
Next Game: 10/31/25, at Mesquite, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Duncanville 40, Mesquite Horn 13
W/L Streak: 4 wins
Previous ranking: 4
Duncanville easily rolled to its fourth consecutive win by silencing Mesquite Horn in a 27-point victory last week. The Panthers have only played six games so far this season because of their abbreviated eight-game schedule. Since sustaining a one-point loss to Waxahachie, Duncanville has rounded into form. Expect the Panthers to beat Mesquite and Cedar Hill to finish 7-1 in the regular season, although the Longhorns could give them a battle in the finale.
No. 6 Dallas South Oak Cliff Golden Bears (7-1, 5-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, at Dallas Samuell, 7:30 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Dallas South Oak Cliff 48, Seagoville 0
W/L Streak: 6 wins
Previous ranking: 6
The Golden Bears did it again. Five District 5-5A Division II games, five District 5-5A Division II shutouts. SOC has outscored its opponents in district play by a combined total of 268-0. The Golden Bears gave up just seven points in district play last season. They have Dallas Samuell (6-2) and Dallas Thomas Jefferson (1-7) remaining on the schedule.
No. 7 Prosper Eagles (7-1, 5-1)
Next Game: 10/30/25, at Princeton, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/24/25, Allen 31, Prosper 30
W/L Streak: 1 loss
Previous Ranking: 7
How does Prosper respond after a gut-wrenching loss? We’ll see when the Eagles play at Princeton on Thursday night. Prosper needs to move on from that 31-30 loss to No. 2 Allen and finish strong to go into the playoffs with a 9-1 record and a full head of steam. The Eagles close out the regular season at home against Plano West.
No. 8 North Crowley Panthers (7-1, 4-0)
Next Game: 10/30/25, at Mansfield, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, North Crowley 69, Saginaw Boswell 17
W/L Streak: 4 wins
Previous ranking: 8
North Crowley’s offense has found another gear. Since losing to Rockwall, 37-35, on Sept. 18, the defending Class 6A Division I state champions have scored 62 or more points in each of their four straight wins over Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Lake Ridge, Weatherford and Saginaw Boswell. Last week, running back Kiante Ingram rushed for 213 yards and four touchdowns.
No. 9 Galena Park North Shore Mustangs (7-1, 5-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, at Sheldon C.E. King, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/24/25, Galena Park North Shore 47, Humble Atascocita 28
W/L Streak: 7 wins
Previous ranking: 9
The Mustangs don’t have long to celebrate their 19-point win over Humble Atascocita. North Shore has to gear up for a tough road challenge at Sheldon C.E. King. Both teams come into the District 23-6A contest with 7-1 (5-0) records. The Panthers’ only loss of the season came at the hands of No. 24 Dickinson. North Shore will then close out the regular season against a salty Humble Summer Creek squad. Those two games should get the Mustangs geared up for the playoffs.
No. 10 Carthage Bulldogs (8-0, 3-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, Rusk, 7:30 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Carthage 62, Bullard 7
W/L Streak: 23 wins
Previous ranking: 10
Having their game at Bullard moved up one day did nothing to deter Carthage from keeping the victory train rolling. The defending Class 4A Division II state champs easily won their 23rd straight game after holding off Athens the previous week. With games remaining against a pair of 1-7 teams — Rusk and Brownsboro — Carthage is a shoo-in to finish the regular season undefeated.
No. 11 Celina Bobcats (8-0, 4-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, Nevada Community, 7:30 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Celina 56, Paris 7
W/L Streak: 24 wins
Previous ranking: 11
It was one of the strangest weeks in Celina football history. As the Bobcats beat Paris, 56-7, for their 24th consecutive win, news broke that their athletic director and head coach Bill Elliott and another district employee were placed on non-disciplinary leave pending a pair of investigations related to former middle school coach Caleb Elliott, his son. Bill Elliott, Celina’s coach since 2012, has not been accused of any wrongdoing, according to Celina ISD. The defending Class 4A Division I state champs host Nevada Community this week.
No. 12 Frisco Lone Star Rangers (8-0, 6-0)
Next Game: 10/30/25, at Frisco Lebanon Trail, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/24/25, Frisco Wakeland 34, Frisco Wakeland 13
W/L Streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 13
The Rangers notched a statement win by rolling past district rival Frisco Wakeland to hand the Wolverines their first loss of the season. Lone Star also opened the season with an impressive 44-21 road win over No. 18 Argyle. The Rangers seem like a team primed to make a deep run that could culminate at AT&T Stadium in December. Lone Star has outscored its opponents by a combined total of 352-86 this season.
No. 13 Lake Travis Cavaliers (8-0, 4-0)
Next game: 10/31/25, Austin Akins, 7:30 p.m.
Last game: 10/24/25, Lake Travis 31, Austin Westlake 10
W/L streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 20
Lake Travis finally got the Austin Westlake monkey off its back. After six straight losses to the Chaps in the Battle of the Lakes rivalry, including in the last two playoffs, the Cavs made it look easy with a 21-point victory at Westlake. Former Chap Drew Brees was on hand for the game as his number was retired. The Cavs are in the District 26-6A driver’s seat with two games left and wins over Dripping Springs and Westlake in their pocket. The Tigers and Chaps play in the regular-season finale.
No. 14 Denton Ryan Raiders (7-1, 5-1)
Next Game: 10/30/25, White Settlement Brewer, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Denton Ryan 38, Denton 14
W/L Streak: 3 wins
Previous ranking: 14
The Raiders won their third straight game in convincing fashion after only leading 21-14 at halftime in the Battle of the Volt rivalry. Running back Tre’Vaughn Reynolds returned to the lineup after missing several weeks with an injury. He rushed for 96 yards and one touchdown, while Rontavian Brown tallied 105 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Ryan looks to finish the regular season strong against White Settlement Brewer and Birdville and head into the postseason with a 9-1 record. Ryan’s only loss was a one-point setback against No. 4 Aledo.
No. 15 Highland Park Scots (8-1, 5-0)
Next Game: 11/7/25, Midlothian, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Highland Park 56, Burleson Centennial 14
W/L Streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 15
After a strange 70-66 win at Tyler in the District 7-5A Division I opener, Highland Park has looked much more like a traditional Scots team. Highland Park has cruised in its other three district contests, including back-to-back 56-14 wins over Cleburne and Burleson Centennial. The Scots have a bye in Week 10. They will close out the regular season at home against a solid Midlothian team next week.
No. 16 Gunter Tigers (7-1, 4-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, S&S Consolidated, 7:30 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Gunter 56, Blue Ridge 3
W/L Streak: 5 wins
Previous ranking: 16
The three-time defending Class 3A Division II state champions continued their dominance in district play. Gunter has won 59 straight district games, dating back to the 2015 season. With wins over S&S Consolidated and Leonard, the Tigers will head into the postseason with a 9-1 record.
No. 17 Kilgore Bulldogs (8-1, 5-0)
Next Game: 11/6/25, at Mabank, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Kilgore 55, Palestine 3
W/L Streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 17
Like Highland Park, Kilgore has a late bye this week. Since falling to No. 10 Carthage in the season opener, the Bulldogs have been on a roll with impressive wins over Texarkana Pleasant Grove and Lindale, which are both 7-1 this season. With only one more regular-season game remaining against Mabank (2-6), the defending Class 4A Division I state runner-up should head into the playoffs with a 9-1 record.
No. 18 Argyle Eagles (7-1, 6-0)
Next Game: 10/31/25, Grapevine, 7 p.m.
Last Game: 10/23/25, Argyle 41, Burleson 7
W/L Streak: 7 wins
Previous ranking: 18
Like Gunter, Argyle owns district play. The Eagles have won 31 consecutive district games, including last week’s blowout of Burleson. Argyle should easily extend its overall win streak to eight when it hosts one-win Grapevine this week. The Eagles then close out the regular season against The Colony (4-4). Argyle is shaping up to be one of those teams that could make some serious noise in the Class 5A Division II playoffs.
No. 19 Dripping Springs Tigers (8-1, 4-1)
Next Game: 11/7/25, at Austin Westlake, 7:30 p.m.
Last Game: 10/24/25, Dripping Springs 63, Del Valle 0
W/L Streak: 1 win
Previous ranking: 19
After suffering their first loss of the season in a hard-fought 14-7 battle against No. 13 Lake Travis, the Tigers bounced back in a big way with a resounding 63-0 win over Del Valle. Now, Dripping Springs has a bye before closing the regular season at two-loss Austin Westlake. What better way to gear up for the playoffs?
No. 20 Stephenville Yellow Jackets (8-0, 2-0)
Next game: 10/31/25, at Brownwood, 7:30 p.m.
Last game: 10/24/25, Stephenville 49, Lampasas 7
W/L streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 21
Stephenville doesn’t seem to be getting enough love. The Yellow Jackets, a storied Texas program, are putting together a pretty incredible season, including back-to-back wins over Waco La Vega and Ruston (LA). Stephenville finished 12-2 last season and made it to the fourth round of the playoffs. Two wins away from a perfect 2025 regular season, the Yellow Jackets are buzzing.
No. 21 Brenham Cubs (8-0, 3-0)
Next game: 10/31/25, at Waco University, 7 p.m.
Last game: 10/24/25, Brenham 33, Killeen Ellison 25
W/L streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 22
Save for games against Killeen schools, Brenham has dominated opponents in 2025. Now, about those games against Killeen schools. The Cubs only beat Killeen by two points on the road, 15-13, on Sept. 19. Last week, Brenham held off Killeen Ellison, 33-25. Those are Brenham’s two closest games of the year. What’s baffling is the two Killeen schools are a combined 3-14. Go figure. The Cubs close out the regular season against Waco University and Belton.
No. 22 Iowa Colony Pioneers (7-1, 4-1)
Next game: 10/31/25, Rosenberg Terry, 7 p.m.
Last game: 10/24/25, Iowa Colony 21, Fort Bend Marshall 0
W/L streak: 3 wins
Previous ranking: 23
Iowa Colony’s defense is not fooling around. Last week, the Pioneers recorded their second straight shutout and third in the last five games. The offense scored a season-low 21 points against Fort Bend Marshall last week. After facing Rosenberg Terry this week, Iowa Colony has an interesting game at Texas City (5-2) on Nov. 7. Like Iowa Park, the Stingarees gave No. 3 Richmond Randle a tight game, losing 25-7.
No. 23 Fort Bend Ridge Point Panthers (8-0, 5-0)
Next game: 10/30/25, Fort Bend Hightower, 7 p.m.
Last game: 10/23/25, Fort Bend Ridge Point 70, Fort Bend Clements 0
W/L streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 24
The Panthers have notched back-to-back 77-0 and 70-0 wins over Dort Bend Dulles and Fort Bend Clements, but they should get a tougher test this week against Fort Bend Hightower. The Hurricanes come into the game with a 6-2 overall record. Hightower and Fort Bend Travis are tied for second place in District 21-6A at 4-1. Ridge Point has won the last five district titles without a loss.
No. 24 Dickinson Gators (8-0, 5-0)
Next game: 10/31/25, Clear Falls, 7 p.m.
Last game: 10/24/25, Dickinson 45, Clear Springs 7
W/L streak: 8 wins
Previous ranking: 25
Only two more wins stand in the way between Dickinson and a 10-0 regular season. And the Gators could have their hands full with both of their final two opponents, starting with Clear Falls (6-2, 4-1) this week. Dickinson then wraps up the regular season at Deer Park (6-2, 5-0). Games against quality opponents the last two weeks of the regular season should serve the Gators well for the playoffs.
No. 25 Pearland Oilers (9-0, 7-0)
Next game: 11/6/25, at South Houston, 6:30 p.m.
Last game: 10/24/25, Pearland 21, Alvin Shadow Creek 14
W/L streak: 9 wins
Previous ranking: NR
We have a new team in the top 25 rankings this week. With Austin Westlake falling out after suffering its second loss of the season, undefeated Pearland moves into the No. 25 spot. The Oilers, after finishing 9-3 with a playoff win over Humble Atascocita last season, are rolling in 2025. Their resume includes solid wins over Dawson and Alvin Shadow Creek. After a bye this week, Pearland closes the regular season at winless South Houston.
