Chelsea legend Petr Cech has backed Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season. He said that they have a good squad and their rivals in the title race are also struggling, giving them a good chance.
The Gunners finished second in the Premier League title race in the last three seasons. They lost the title to Manchester City for two seasons before losing it to Liverpool in the last campaign. They have started this season brilliantly, sitting atop the standings after 10 games, six points above second-placed Manchester City.
Petr Cech has backed Mikel Arteta's side to finally get their hands on the title, as the Chelsea legend told Tribal Football:
"Arsenal have a really huge chance this year. All their rivals are having ups and downs in form, while the Gunners are managing to win even the tough games and have built a lead." "Their Champions League campaign could also give them a boost. The squad has been together for quite a while, they’ve got quality on the bench, too. So I think they have a big chance to finally go all the way this time," he added.Arsenal have also maintained a perfect record in the UEFA Champions League with four wins in four games. They are second in the standings, only behind Bayern Munich on goals scored.
Chelsea legend on why they are not Premier League title contenders this season
Chelsea legend John Terry believes that the Blues are not Premier League title contenders currently due to the inexperience in the squad. He pointed out their inconsistent results, saying that more such results can be expected.
Chelsea beat Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and Ajax in three consecutive games before losing against Sunderland on October 25. After the game, John Terry stated:
“Losing to Sunderland after doing the hard work against Liverpool and Forest, I think we’re going to get that with a little bit of an inexperienced squad, with the younger group we have we’re gunna see that a bit and that’s what’s going to cost us not being title contenders at the end of it.”After the Sunderland clash, Chelsea got past Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-3 in the EFL Cup Fourth Round. They then beat rivals Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the Premier League before drawing 2-2 against Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League.
The Blues are seventh in the Premier League standings, eight points behind leaders Arsenal.
