The selection of races in Ashes of Creation is a crucial step when starting your journey through Verra. There are nine playable options to choose from, with each one offering a unique aesthetic as well as a biome. That said, you will come across several additional non-playable races when exploring the world. Intrepid Studios sets up the game in such a way that you don't gain any benefits for selecting any particular race. This allows creative freedom for players to explore the different visual and history-rich archetypes.

This article sheds light on the different races in Ashes of Creation and explains which one you should pick.

Which race should you pick in Ashes of Creation?

Choosing one of the nine races in Ashes of Creation comes down to your preferences for character visuals, homelands, history, and relationships with kin. Combining races, classes, and archetypes can help you fine-tune the perfect playable character for yourself.

Here is everything you need to know about all the race archetypes:

Aela Humans

  • Kaelar - This human race takes great pride in its history heritage. These characters are ready to intermingle with the others, but they lack negotiation capabilities. They form orders of knights and possess the largest standing army in the game.
  • Vaelune - This particular Aela Human race consists of traders, and they come from the Sandsquall Desert. They operate through a magistrate and take pride in their trade practices, which serve as a core of their archetype. This race has glowing eyes, and it signifies an old ritual that witnessed the marriage of an Aelan to a djinn guardian of the desert.

Dünzenkell Dwarves

  • Dünir - These dwarves are very resilient and well known for their strong alliances. However, they are also very stubborn and can nurse small grudges for a lifetime. They are very loyal to their monarch and are especially known for the defensive strength of their army. They are likely to seek riches in underground areas but have a cautious approach in life.
  • Niküa - This adventurous race comprises fishermen and sailors. These dwarves are well known for their hospitality. They choose a council of five elders and operate according to their decisions. That said, they are highly adaptable and are often well-tuned with nature. This adventurous race comprises fishermen and sailors.

Kaivek Orcs

  • Ren'Kai - This race comprises warriors, scholars, and craftsmen. Although Ren'Kai has a strong army that rivals Kaelar, the history between the two has always superseded any opportunities for diplomacy between the two. This race is extremely loyal, and they have a unique bond with their closest partners, Vek.
  • Vek - This race is full of alchemists, mages, and clerics. They pursue celestial divinity and put faith in a higher power. Although most of Vek's relationship with other races relies on their own power of prophecy, they share a close bond with the Ren'Kai.

Pyrian Elves

  • Empyrean - This race is comprised of extremely shrewd diplomats, skilled craftsmen, and powerful mages. They take pride in their military and government and have a very long lifespan that can outlast any other race in the world. This dictates their constant pursuit of knowledge, which comes with a change in profession every few hundred years.
  • Py'Rai - This race is more connected to nature than their elvian counterparts. They forgo any form of government and fiercely believe in individualism and loose alliances. They take pride in their freedom from worldly ties and celebrate it in a yearly event. This race values self-expression over anything else.

Tulnar

  • Tulnar - This beastly race comprises refugees who survived the onslaught of the Ancients on lands above, while they kept their heads together below the surface. This race is proud of its traditions and relies on a tight-knit community based on trust. After the opening of Divine Gates, this race finally got to introduce themselves to the other nations all around Verra.
