Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 release reportedly had a direct effect on the FedEx Cup Playoffs viewership this year. As per a report, the Playoffs viewership saw a surge this year, which took place immediately after the movie was released on Netflix.

On Friday, December 19, Josh Carpenter of Sports Business Journal shared a Nielsen report on the viewership of this year's golf. Overall, it was a positive year for golf, and the game witnessed better viewership than 2024. The PGA Tour witnessed a 10 percent surge in 2025, and the live coverage saw an increase of 8 percent.

The season started with TGL, which saw fan growth of 17 percent during the first few months. Speaking of the major championships, the Masters Tournament and The Open Championship witnessed a surge. The Augusta event's viewership grew by 2.4 million to 7.7 million, while Royal Portrush also saw a surge of 400K. The PGA Championship and the US Open saw a small slip of 200K and 400K.

However, the trend was positive for the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which took place just after Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore 2 release. The golf comedy racked up over 2.89 billion viewing minutes in its first few days. The FedEx St. Jude Championship garnered 700K viewership compared to 500K last year.

Similarly, BMW Championship viewership grew to 1.7 million from 1.3 million. The Tour Championship also saw a viewership surge of 500K to 1.6 million. Overall, the average viewership of the playoffs grew from 1 million in 2024 to 1.4 million this season.
