The NFL's Kansas City Chiefs made a major announcement on Monday about vacating their longstanding home at Arrowhead Stadium in favor of a new, state-of-the-art domed stadium. Chiefs president Mark Donovan announced that the team's new stadium in Kansas will accommodate between 65,000 and 68,000 seats.

Chiefs team president Mark Donovan expects a new domed stadium in Kansas will be in the 65,000-68,000 seat range.

When fans on social media found out about the new Chiefs stadium's capacity, they had some wild reactions, especially since Arrowhead has a capacity to host 76,416 fans for a game.

"Embarrassing look all around," another added. "Better be closer 68,000 or this will be the biggest waste of time. The more fans, the louder," a third commented.

Here are a few more reactions.

"War Crime," one wrote. "Decreased seat count is a major disaster. The rest of it I couldn’t care less," another added. "Disgraceful," a user tweeted.

According to reports, the Chiefs' new stadium will cost approximately $3 billion. The arena is set to be constructed across the Kansas-Missouri state line and is expected to be completed by the start of the 2031 season.

The Chiefs are also planning to build a new practice facility for the team in Kansas, in the city of Olathe.

The Chiefs have been playing at Arrowhead since 1972. However, they will be changing their home stadium soon.

The Chiefs were eliminated from playoff contention this season after their Week 15 loss to the LA Chargers. This is the first time that Kansas City won't make the postseason since the 2014 NFL season.

Moreover, the Chiefs won the AFC West for nine consecutive seasons, from 2016 through 2024. However, that streak has come to an end this season.
