Melanie King has shared her thoughts on the US's new policies regarding 6G. She questioned how this would affect freedom of speech, considering it is set to enable multiple implantable technologies.
On Friday, December 19, the US President Donald Trump signed a memorandum to push for 6G development in the country. He instructed that the 7.125-7.4 GHz frequency band, which is currently used for Federal systems, be cleared to develop 6G for commercial purposes. The White House shared the entire memorandum along with the President's orders.
An X (formerly Twitter) user, Ann Vandersteel, shared part of the memorandum in a post on Sunday and wrote:
"Read this carefully. The federal government openly states that 6G will enable AI, robotics, and implantable technologies tied directly to national security and economic policy. This isn’t sci-fi. It’s policy. Ask yourself: Who controls the network and who becomes the node?"Melanie King quoted Vandersteel's post and wrote:
"I’ve been talking about this, digital id, social credit score, and the 20 bipartisan bills in congress right now that effectively end freedom of speech. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. All of this is rolling out in the US as we speak but all these “aMeRiCa fiRSt” influencers are obssessed with culture wars, Charlie Kirk, and Israel. It’s treasonous that none of yall talk about what’s about to destroy ALL OF US."As per the memorandum, Donald Trump has also instructed the authorities to work on relocating systems to the 2.69-2.9 GHz and 4.4-4.94 GHz range. If they succeed, this could help clear up even more space for commercial use of 6G.

The White House, meanwhile, hails it as a big step towards 6G development in the country, as part of a fact sheet about the memorandum explained:
"6G networks will provide the foundation to operate cutting-edge technologies of the next decade, including AI, robotics, implantable technologies and many other advancements. It will also deliver dramatically faster connection speeds, ultra-low latency, and higher data capacity."It further added:
"President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts Act reflects the United States’ commitment to win the race to 6G, and to be the global leader in developing technologies that rely on 6G, by auctioning necessary spectrum for next generation networks."Notably, Trump has given a deadline of 12 months for the concerned authorities to submit their federal relocation plans to the President. As per the memorandum, the plans submitted must "protect national security missions while freeing this prime spectrum for American industry".
Meanwhile, as per ExecutivGov, this also marks a step in alignment with the Technology Prosperity Deal that the US signed with Japan and South Korea in October this year. As per this deal, both countries will work together for technological advancements, mainly in fields such as AI, 6G, quantum computing, space, biotechnology, and fusion energy.
